Had an absolute blast. After trying to learn MTBing by myself for quite some time, I realised I had picked up some bad habits. This was a great opportunity to learn correct technique that will help my riding.

We all really enjoyed the course, a great demonstration of how little we know about the techniques and skills required to be smooth, fast and safe. Very impressed with the professionalism, content and sheer level of capability Norm demonstrated, he quickly found the different levels in the group (which is very wide) and made sure everyone was comfortable with what they were doing and getting something out of it. The trail we used was perfect, the obstacles were challenging without being dangerous.

Adam was a great teacher and ensured everyone felt confident with their riding by the end so there was nothing that I would change

I learned Heaps! The biggest was to slow down, get the technique right and not to hammer down out of control! So for me this means, attack position, pushing forward on steep drops, unweighting over logs and step ups and bum back.

Looks where I'm going, rather than where I am. Stop & think/review the tracks I'm riding. Weighting & unweighting techniques reinforced. Have more faith in grip of tyres on rocks. Push down with arms while cornering to improve grip. I have a mental issue with the rock berm on boulder track, which I want to overcome.

Heaps. Basic skills - positions, (un)weighting, cornering, small obstacles. Looking where you want to go rather than where you don\'t. Breathing when concentrating (don\'t laugh - this has really helped!)

I found the course very good and learnt lots, now all I have to do is practice! Norm explained what he wanted us to do in a way that was easy to understand. We all had as many runs through each section as we needed without any pressure to move on until we were ready. If you want to pick up new skills or improve those you have I think the course is well worth doing.

I knew nothing about MTB, now know riding position, weight transfers, rolling over logs and rocks, better understand the way MTBs work on uneven surfaces, what fat tyres like to grip on better, can't ride a MTB like a road bike, eventhough you may not be a natural to MTB riding, you're never too old to learn something new, lots of big bad bruises on the legs make you look tough

Improving these clinics would be hard, this one was very well run and thoroughly enjoyable and as I told Norm at the end of the day, I could not turn the pedals any more if I tried but I had learned a lot - this was perfect.

lots. Its easier to do this stuff with a bit of speed, well at least more than I was doing them at. Hairpins and releasing the front brake, pushing the bike forward over obstacles. Maintaining speed over obstacles/drops by launching

What a day!

giantlogoIn conjuction with Giant Bikes Australia, we conducted our first of many Giant Womens MTB Skills days, at Kurrajong MTB park near the You Yangs. With 21 eager participants all equipped with some of the best Giant bikes around, Jess Douglas hit the trails for 2 hours of skills instruction.  Jess was helped out by a number of elite Giant sponsored athletes.

The day was aimed at giving people an introduction to our mountain bike skills courses and to bring together liked minded girls to ride their bikes and meet others.  Along with skills instruction, there was also a brief intro to bike mechanics.  Giant put on a great post ride feed, with Stella (of Giant Brochure fame) cooking up a storm on the BBQ.

MTBSkills.com.au have plans of running more of these introduction days all over the east coast of Australia... so stay tuned for more details. In the mean time, please sign up for our mailing list and check out our current course dates and come along and see just how much correct mtb technique can improve your riding and enjoyment.

MTB Skills Clinics and CampsWe have now had over 500 participants through our courses and camps. We have quickly become Australia's #1 provider of MTB Skills courses and camps.

Our philosophy is to teach you the techniques required so that you can develop your own skill, at the same time keeping your safe and improving your confidence.

Most new MTB riders and also some experienced ones, simply lack the confidence in order to correctly "nail" many skills. Read what Norm Douglas has to say about why we started Mountain Bike Skills.

Don't just take our word for it, read what our past participants have to say

If you are new to Mountain Biking, have just started racing, would like to race or maybe you have been riding for some time, and want to learn the correct technique you weren't taught in the beginning, then these are the clinics for you.

Our clinics and camps are NOT pretentious, rather they focus on YOU the cyclist and constantly focusing on how much FUN you can have once you have the skills and confidence. We also have an average class size of 1:5 instructor ratio, meaning that you get a lot of attention and support for the session.

Women are especially catered for, in an environment that certainly doesn't accept that men are always better than women. Jessica Douglas is one of the instructors and is an elite Mountain Bike rider who has over time (along with tears and tantrums), learnt the correct techniqe. Jessica is constantly learning new skills and loves to hit the trails with better riders to continually hone and improve what she already knows and also pick up some tips and hints along the way.

Come and join us in one of our Camps or Clinics to GAIN MORE CONFIDENCE - RIDE FASTER - HOW TO RACE, and JUST HAVE MORE FUN.

Our Camps and Clinics are designed by Mountain Bikers for YOU the rider. We have clinics approxiamately every four weeks and 2-3 Camps per year depending on demand. Read more and sign up for the next clinic now .
